Mary Young
Mary has been practising yoga for nearly 20 years and teaching yoga for around 13 years. With a background originally in Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow, Mary became sufficiently inspired by the positive effects on her own general health and well-being to undertake her first formal yoga training in India in 2008. After several years of further training, personal study and teaching, Mary is now a Senior Yoga Teacher (SYT) with Yoga Alliance Professionals.
In addition to teaching a movement-based yang practise encompassing the principles of Vinyasa Flow, Mary teaches Yin, yoga nidra, and contemplative practises. Her yoga style blends elements of mindfulness, embodiment and anatomy/physiology together with interoceptive awareness, meridian system enhancement and myofascial release techniques.
Mary extends gratitude to all her teachers past and present and continues to study in her favoured areas of interest to add depth to her knowledge for her own internal nourishment and to share with practitioners.
Yin Yoga
A quiet practice involving prolonged stretching.
Postures are held for 3 minutes or more to open into the thicker layers of connective tissue around the joints.
During this time, we develop attentiveness and refine our awareness of our physical, energetic, emotional and mental states.
Yin yoga is a great complement to dynamic (yang) styles and is recommended to anyone in need of deep stretching.
It is therefore not recommended for those with hyper-mobility, spinal disc issues or joints issues, and not suitable in pregnancy.
